Don’t Shoot Portland hosts annual 3 day plenary in honor of Mike Brown and Ferguson Uprising

For the past five years, Don’t Shoot Portland has held a series of workshops every August that focus on state sanctioned discrimination and prioritizing community engagement. We come together over three days to honor the memory of Mike Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, a victim of police brutality. Esteemed panelists, educational workshops and numerous art and music projects will be hosted by Don’t Shoot Portland from August 8th to August 10th. This plenary is a reflection of what we have been able to achieve as a united community following the five years since the Ferguson Uprising.

Day 1: August 8th, 2019

Our kickoff for the plenary will take place at Portland Art Museum. The museum has graciously invited Don’t Shoot Portland and our supporters to attend free of charge via a personalized link, here. The days’ speaker, LaTanya S. Autry, Ph.D. candidate, will deliver a lecture, “By Any Means Necessary: Racial Justice and Representation in the Arts”.

Autry is founder of the popular hashtag movement #MuseumsAreNotNeutral, and will have a discussion surrounding this topic as well. Please join us as we cover law enforcement accountability and reform, civic engagement, economic and business development and much more.

Learn more about the upcoming lecture and reserve your tickets through this link by selecting 'Adult Ticket' and entering code CL8819 on the check out page.

Day 2: August 9th, 2019

For the next two days of our event, we will head to The Dismantle, Change, Build! Center. Together we intend to educate and engage with those interested in better policing in our communities.

Day 3: August 10th, 2019

The DCBC will host a back to school supply drive and provide music, art and refreshments. An updated link of needed school supplies can be found here. Please join us as we distribute these materials to our youth and reflect on our work as a community.
