Residency at Portland Art Museum with All Things Being Equal Continues
The past few months have been made possible thanks to our volunteers. By signing up and showing up, your participation helps us create these community art projects. This work matters and we look forward to working with you into 2020. Continue to support our non-profit today.
Last weeks’ ‘Liberated Archives’ event was eye-opening and engaging for many - A huge thank you to our speakers Brian Johnson, Diana Banning and Mary Hansen from City of Portland Archives and Records Management for their presentations. We are so grateful to continue using the Hank Willis Thomas exhibit as a space to educate and provide insight to those unfamiliar with our social arts programming!
Special thank you to Terry Baxter of Multnomah County Archives for providing Don’t Shoot Portland with so many archival materials for our community art project as well. These were installed on the morning of December 17th with help from DSP board members and Portland Art Museum staff (pictured above).
The next residency programming is in partnership with OHSU’s NW Noggin (Neuroscience Outreach Group Growing In Networks): Police Violence, White Supremacy and How it Affects Your Brain, which will take place at the Portland Art Museum. The last time we partnered with NW Noggin, we built a wall for Trump - this year we are again proving you can’t control art by presenting a live performance in our residency space.
LaRhonda Steele and Karen Trusty will perform their new collaborative album, ‘Spirit of Freedom’ following our discussion panel. This is the last installation of programming we will have during the Hank Willis Thomas exhibit, so please come out if you are able. We need your engagement!
