Tomorrow: First Thursday in the Pearl District!

The Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA) will be hosting free screenprinting to the public this Thursday. Art teachers are showing solidarity in raising awareness for the family of Immaueal Jacquez Clark-Johnson, #MannyClark,an unarmed Black man wrongfully murdered by Portland Police Bureau in November of 2022. In this call to action, we ask you to support the family in their fight for justice through word of mouth, donating to the familys’ GoFundMeas well as attending the continuing vigils on the 19th of every month. Thursday April 4, 5-8pm. 511 NW Broadway St, Portland, OR 97209

April 12th + 13th, 2024: Memory Work for Black Lives

Are you interested in learning more about the preservation of art and personal images and documents? Our nonprofit Don’t Shoot Portland will be debuting a new installation at University of Oregon that will center our Liberated Archives exhibit series. The weekend will kick off with free workshops and a plenary about the importance of creative archiving and memory work. Details and free registration can be found here.

 

Throughout the plenary, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in panel discussions, workshops and interactive sessions aimed at exploring the intersection of memory work, social justice and community activism. Key topics will include the significance of community archiving initiatives, strategies for preserving and sharing marginalized voices and the role of memory in shaping collective identities. Policing Justice at Portland Institute of Contemporary Art: Our multimedia installation, Center of Injustice, is still open to the public as part of the Policing Justice through May 19! 

Visit PICA to take in the powerful works on display while learning about the histories of police violence to actively re-imagine what a future of true community safety looks like. This weekend, in honor of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., our installation will feature his final speech, “I’ve Been to The  Mountaintop”, from the April 3rd, 1968 rally for sanitation workers in Memphis, Tennessee before his assassination the following day, April 4th.
