Spring Break Out 2025!
Please join us at one or all of the events we have planned for the entire week of Spring Break, from March 24 to March 28. All events and workshops are free of charge with all supplies included as well as refreshments. Youth of all ages and their families are welcomed and encouraged!

Open House at Don't Shoot Portland Annex:
Free art supplies and books from our Black Cultural Library will be given away! Drop in to get a social justice swag bag and learn more about our community-based art and education programs.

TUESDAY MARCH 25: 10am to 3pm
Open House at the Don't Shoot Portland Annex: Archives for Black Lives and a 12pm workshop with photographer and educator AbdoulNasser Mika!
‘Photography as a Tool of Resistance’, is a workshop and photo walk. This interactive workshop will pay homage to the late Gordon Parks, a prolific photographer while empowering attendees to document the world around them to encourage social change.

This event is free and open to youth of all ages.

🗣️ 12:30pm-3pm Next Up will share the power of youth centered civic engagement and ways to get involved locally
🎥 11am-3pm We will stream American Coup: Wilmington 1898, the little-known story of a deadly race massacre and carefully orchestrated insurrection in North Carolina’s largest city in 1898 — the only coup d’état in the history of the US. The story of what happened in Wilmington was suppressed for decades until descendants and scholars began to investigate.

THURSDAY MARCH 27: 11am to 3pm
Join Don’t Shoot PDX, Basic Rights Oregon, famed author Alice Faye Duncan, and the ACLU of Oregon to protect Oregon’s diverse voices from censorship and book bans! ‘‘No More Book Bans: Defending the Freedom to Read’ is an event with educators, authors, and youth to celebrate the freedom to read, think, and learn with an evening of art, advocacy, and community. Author Alice Faye Duncan will share her experience of her book titles being banned, the wide-ranging effects of these book bans and her latest titles, including things we can all do to stay hopeful during times of change.

FRIDAY MARCH 28: 11am to 3pm
For our final day of Spring Break Out, we are inviting Royal Rose Foundation and Boots on the Ground to present on the importance of community advocacy. RRF will share a presentation on awareness and prevention of illicit fentanyl. Learn how to recognize the signs of an overdose, respond in an emergency, and take steps to keep your community safe. Boots on the Ground will teach a day of hands-on workshops to teach attendees about direct care. This includes the basics of critical response including basic emergency first aid, wound dressing, the importance of emotional regulation, stress tolerance, navigating interpersonal relationships and practicing radical mindfulness.
