#FreePalestine

We are sending love, power and solidarity to those experiencing the immense tragedies being carried out against the people of Palestine. We absolutely condemn apartheid, genocide, military occupation and antisemitism - for us this is not complicated. You can criticize a government without meaning its' people.

#FreePalestine.

Since our Liberated Archives for Black Lives programming has been virtual, we’ve been able to engage with communities across the world to share information. Thank you to the Northwest Archivists Inc., for hosting our Liberated Archives presentation as part of your annual meeting! The importance of community-based archives can not be understated and we are excited about the development of our programming and workshops for the year.

We were recently introduced to the archiving work of Urban Art Mapping through an interview with CBS (watch here). Speaking on the power of documentation and art as activism tools, the group also highlighted Portland artist Xochi Ruvalcabas' beautiful memorial mural to George Floyd. Please learn more about Urban Art Mapping and support their cause for social justice preservation by submitting your own images of art to the George Floyd and Anti-Racist Street Art Database.

Big thanks to Food Front Co-Op and their community members for nominating us as the recipients of their register round up fundraiser! We are so grateful for the contributions of our supporters, and that includes donors and anyone who follows and believes in the work we do.

If you didn’t get a chance to check out Archiving the Black Web, it was an incredible panel that explored digital Black spaces and voices. It was a truly empowering forum to be a part of! Recordings will be available through the ATBW website soon.

Recently our executive director and founder, Teressa Raiford, was interviewed by Barbara Dellenback on KLCC Eugene Public Radio. Stream the interview here as we discuss demilitarizing the police, art and activism. Thank you for providing a platform for our discussions to take place - we are grateful for the air time!

In 2015, Teressa Raiford was unlawfully arrested by Portland Police on August 9th during Portlands’ actions of solidarity with Mike Brown in Ferguson, Missouri. When Teressa was acquitted in 2016, Multnomah County dismissed her lawsuit for the arrest - last week, her attorneys’ appeal was accepted into the Supreme Court. Thank you all for tuning in to virtually support Teressa Raiford and her right to protest!

On Sunday, June 6th we will be hanging out during Funday Flea at Artifact PDX! Come by our booth and grab some literature and DSP goodies (art, shirts, keychains and more) while you browse. The Funday Flea will have all kinds of thrift shop gems for only $1 each - all proceeds will go to DSPDX! We will be there from 10am to 12pm.
