Black Lives Matter, Not Black Friday
Over the past two weeks millions of Americans have been watching three high-profile vigilante style murder cases (the murder of Ahmaud Arbery trial, Kyle Rittenhouse trial and the Unite the Right trial) play out in their living rooms. We know that the outcomes of these cases do not equal justice, but it is imperative that we understand how these legal processes work so that we can continue educating ourselves on the dismantling. We are sending strength and love to the family and community of Ahmaud Arbery and those lives cut short by white supremacist violence in Kenosha.
Don’t Shoot Portland is excited to host our ‘Black Lives Matter, Not Black Friday’ 2021 programming with a week long virtual panel and a free meal distribution. Thank you to everyone who has reached out to volunteer and support this work, we couldn’t do this without each and every one of you! Our virtual panel will run from Nov 22 to Nov 26 from 12pm to 1:30pm daily on our YouTube channel with rotating guests joining the discussions. Please make sure to subscribe to our channel and share this flyer in your networks!
On Saturday November 20th, we will be partnering with Peacekeeper Society for another free meal and resource distribution at NAYA PDX (5135 NE Columbia). There will be hundreds of pounds of groceries and household essentials, free of charge, no ID required.
The distribution will begin at 1pm and will last until supplies are gone. We are also delivering these boxes with advanced notice - please email SocialOutreach@dontshootpdx.org if you are needing a contact-less drop off.
If you are fortunate enough to not need these groceries, we absolutely encourage you to pick up these items in order to create meals for those in need.
Winter weather is here - please consider gathering fresh new socks, gloves and warm clothes for our houseless communities. Blanchet House is currently taking donations of these brand new or gently used items; Their Amazon wish list can be found here, or physical donations can be dropped off with Blanchet House.
