Portland Police Violence Exposed in Video Reconstruction

In June, we filed a lawsuit against the City of Portland and the Portland Police challenging its use of force against protestors who began taking to the streets in support of Black Lives Matter. Plaintiffs secured a temporary restraining order limiting the Police Bureau’s indiscriminate use of impact munitions, pepper spray, flash bangs, and Long Range Acoustic Devices (LRAD) in a crowd.

In August, Plaintiffs filed a motion for sanctions against the Portland Police for violating that temporary restraining order, based on a series of incidents during a protest in front of the Portland Police Association building on the night of June 30, 2020. June 30th provides just a sample of what PPB has done and continues to do since late May. The video below highlights several violations from that night and tracks several points of interaction between protestors and police. This is why we continue to fight for Black Lives. Thank you to SITU for the detailed reconstruction below.

Thank you to The Intercept for speaking with DSP Board President Tai Carpenter to outline more about our current legal battle. Please read more here and continue to support the work we do by donating here.

Please make sure you are utilizing our Linktree and mutual aid resources, which list many resources and ways to support the BLM movement on the ground. This is a reminder to sign our petition to Oregon State Senators Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden to stop the confirmation of Chad Wolf to Homeland Security.

Thank you so much to everyone who shows up for Black Lives and is part of this fight for Black liberation. We are thankful to be getting closer to launching our Safer Space programming, thanks to Dr. Anita Randolph and Wall of Vets for leading the way and getting the space ready!

We are also grateful for the amazing support of our community - it is thanks to all of you that we’ve been able to continue our emergency mutual aid collaboration with Fires Igniting the Spirit. The latest supply needs, how to donate and drop-off locations (Portland and Salem!) are listed below. Please help however you can - it’s truly making a difference in so many lives.
